George Crompton was born in 1849 Lancashire, England, to William Crompton and Hannah Wittaker-Crompton. Queen Victoria was Monarch of the UK at the time, and an Irishman (William Hamilton) was arrested after shooting blank shots at her in May of that year.

George married Sarah Alice Sixsmith, and the two had at least one child, a son. George Crompton died in 1927.
