EARL BARR AND GLADYS RUFF-BARR FAMILY Barr Lineage: Charles-Thomas

Earl J. Barr was born to Charles Thomas Barr and Harriette C. Thompson-Barr on Christmas day in 1904 Saline County, Missouri. He grew up on the family farm with five brothers and five sisters. Technology had been progressing wildly since the turn of the century. The year Earl was born, the Wright Brothers' flying machine was still in its early stages of production, Henry Ford set the land speed record of 91 miles an hour, US Army engineers had begun work on the Panama Canal, and the GWR 3440 City of Truro becomes the first railway locomotive to exceed 100 mph. Republican incumbent Theodore Roosevelt defeated Democrat Alton B. Parker to remain President in 1904, and the first New Year's Eve celebration was held in Times Square in New York a week after Earl was born. Earl married his bride Gladys Ruff (born three years his younger on January 19, 1907), holding their nuptuals on August 5th, 1937. The two would have four children of their own , and would also raise their family in Missouri. As was becoming more common in that generation, a few of their children would migrate to the cities away from the farming community that they grew up in, to pursue other careers. Earl J. Barr died June 07, 1989 in Marshall, Missouri, and Glady passed five years later, on July 17, 1994 in Carrollton, Missouri. Carolyn Ann Barr b. 10/18/38 d. 9/4/1999. m.
